Running a small business is never an easy task, and it is made monumentally more difficult during a pandemic. We are going through the same thing, and we want to help. Let’s look at ways your business could save some money on your insurance rates and fix any problems that could occur in the future.
1- Business owners have made multiple changes to how they do business during the pandemic. Less staff and changes in hours are just the beginning. Is your storefront still open, or have you moved to fully online sales? Significant changes in your business should be reflected in your current policy.
2- Have you purchased a new vehicle for deliveries? Maybe added some graphics to it so that your business’s name is visible as you drive around town? Did you buy a commercial auto policy? No? Do not have an accident; your regular car insurance WILL NOT COVER IT.
3- When was the last time you shopped around for lower insurance costs? How confident are you that you have the best coverage and the most affordable rates? Every penny counts right now, so take the time to give us your information so we can shop around for you.
Our small business is here for your small business. We make it easy, affordable, and local. Workers compensation, business liability, commercial auto, commercial real estate, seriously, we do it all, and we do it well.
Call Hudson Valley Agents today for your free insurance review. We will make this as quick and painless as possible; we know you have a business to run. 845-778-2141, email@example.com, or hvagents.com. The Covid-19 pandemic has brought many changes to the Hudson Valley’s small businesses, none of them good. Every dollar counts right now, and we want to help you save even more money. We know that you hear things like this all of the time from insurance commercials, but we aren’t trying to save you money by bundling your auto and home coverage. We are a small business just like you, and we know a thing or two about insurance.
Let’s look at a few of the things that could help your 2021 budget.
- Has your employee count changed? Have you had to furlough/downsize/fire anyone during the pandemic? We can review your current worker’s comp and disability coverage to ensure that you aren’t overpaying.
- Have you added things like outdoor heaters, tents, outdoor seating? All of these items should be added to your coverage. Doing this might slightly increase your rates, but you will be able to replace them if damaged.
- Have you give up your storefront and are operating solely from your home residence? Did you remember to cancel the policy covering your retail space? Did you call your agent to inquire how these changes impact your business insurance needs and the possible savings?
- Do you have a business partner? Do you both have Key Person Life Insurance policies? Yes, this is an expense, not savings, but hear us out. Can you afford to keep your business going if your partner passes away? This coverage ensures that the doors can stay open. You buy life insurance because you want your family to survive financially. You buy key person coverage because you want your business to survive financially.
But the most important thing that you should do to help with your business insurance costs is this- call your insurance agent.
Restaurants and Contractors are examples of businesses that can benefit from talking to an independent insurance agent. Here’s why. Their insurance rates are based on different things: sales, number of employees, square feet of space you are occupying. Or total annual payroll. If your sales have dropped or you are now working with a skeleton crew, call your agent and request a policy review. These reviews can bring you refunds and/or lower rates.
Hudson Valley Agents has 30 years of insurance knowledge and 24/7 phone service, all waiting to help your business stay in business. Call today for a free insurance review or a free quote 845-78-2141. You can also use our secure dedicated link http://business-insurance.link/ Shop local, hire local, and insure local!
Finding a job that you want to do for the next thirty years of your life is almost impossible, impossible, but not undoable. Kathy Livingston started working for Hudson Valley Agents in October of 1990. She is still here and is an invaluable asset to the running of our office.
Kathy handles our commercial lines, workers’ compensation insurance, commercial auto insurance, Business Owner Policies, and more. If you need insurance for your small business, there is no one better qualified to help you than Kathy.
We thought it would be fun to sit her down and interview her about life, insurance, and the holidays.
Question – Is being an insurance agent boring?
Kathy – It is never dull. So many different things to do in a day and having to keep up with all the company changes. Taking calls, quoting, making changes to policies, and making sure that all the companies are completing what is requested.
Question – What is the one thing that you wish your clients knew about your job?
Kathy – That it can sometimes become more hectic than anyone could imagine. People think of an insurance office, and they automatically assume that it is dull and slow-paced. It can be a real zoo sometimes, so please be patient with us.
Question – What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t at work?
Kathy – Just one? I love to spend time with my grandchildren, bake, and garden.
Question – What is your favorite movie?
Kathy – Sweet Home Alabama
Question – What is your favorite holiday?
Kathy – Christmas. Time for family and friends to be together, and I love the decorations and lights.
Question – If you were not in the insurance industry, what would you do?
Kathy – After 30 years, that is hard to say, but I think something in a hospital caring for people.
Kathy has a very loyal following with the many contractors who insure with Hudson Valley Agents. She knows how busy they are, that time truly is money, and that when someone needs a certificate of insurance, they need it NOW.
Your small business deserves the personal touch that an independent insurance agent offers. Kathy and the rest of the HVA staff can help protect your largest financial asset, your business.
In October of 1990 a father and son decided to open up a little independent insurance agency in Walden NY. Walden has a little something for everyone, as this video shows-
But, what makes this the perfect spot for us is simply this – Location. From here we can personally reach out to some of our hyper-local insurance companies. Kingstone, in Kingston NY, Mid-Hudson Co-Operative, in Montgomery. We’re also close to the NYS Thruway, and that makes reaching our other NYS based companies a breeze. The internet and telephone are easy ways to keep in touch, but that personal touch means so much when it comes to building relationships.
Keeping things local is important, local companies mean working with local risks, and that means things like wildfires in California will not increase insurance rates in the Hudson Valley. Lower rates, local risks, and local funds being put back into the local economy. It’s a win/win for our clients, our companies, and us.
Ensuring that the residents of the Hudson Valley have affordable, well-written insurance coverage for their homes, cars, and businesses is what we do, we’ve been doing it for 28 years now.
Need help with your workers’ compensation insurance? We work with companies that offer real-time tracking, and that can be a huge game changer for independent contractors! Need an insurance certificate for your next construction job, just go to our website and request one, easy as pie. We make it our business to ensure that your business runs smoothly and can get back to work ASAP should disaster strike. Call us, email us, go to our website for a free quote, or stop by and say “Hi”, we love to meet our neighbors.
Happy Friday Hudson Valley! #keepitlocal #shoplocal #insurelocal #explorelocal
The Oxford Dictionary defines the word insurance as, “A thing providing protection against a possible eventuality.” and Merriam – Webster defines insurance as, “A means of guaranteeing protection or safety.”. Insurance is our business so we have always defined it by the protection it provides our clients as well as ourselves but not everyone sees insurance the same way. Today’s blog post is about increasing awareness of what insurance does for you. We’ll do our best not to speak in the same tired cliches our industry is known for and offer you a fresh perspective on what many think of as a boring industry.
When we asked our staff what aspects of insurance they most wished our clients were aware of they told us this:
Dave Jr, owner of Hudson Valley Agents, would like our clients to be aware of the fact that insurance “Is highly regulated by the state of NY, that is why it is less expensive in many other states”. That explains the enormous difference in the cost of auto insurance from state to state. For questions on this topic, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Kathy would like her commercial clients to know that properly cancelling your policy, rather than allowing it to lapse due to non-payment, will make it easier for you to re-insure with that company again and it can save you money in the long run. For questions about insurance for your business, please email Kathy at email@example.com
Ashley handles our personal lines. She would like her personal auto insurance clients to know that rental car coverage does not mean that you can rent a car while you are on vacation and your insurance will pay for it. Rental car coverage means that your insurance company will pay for a rental car if your own car has been damaged in an accident. For questions about personal home or auto insurance, please contact Ashley at firstname.lastname@example.org
Philip wishes more business owners were aware of the differences between personal auto insurance, commercial auto insurance, and Hired/Non-owned coverage. If you or your employees routinely travel to deliver goods or services there are policies that protect them and your business should there be an auto accident while en route to a delivery. Ensuring that you have the proper coverage will save you a headache later on and the coverage is affordable too. For further information on this, please contact Philip at email@example.com.
Insurance impacts our lives in so many ways, it is important to understand what your policies cover and what they do not. We are always happy to share our knowledge, so if you have questions about your insurance, please do not hesitate to contact us, we are always happy to be of service!

Every office should be lucky enough to have someone like Kathy Livingston. Kathy has been with Hudson Valley Agents since they opened their doors in 1990 and we hope she stays until at least 3220!
This isn’t Kathy’s first bio-blog (& it won’t be her last either!), so this time we had to give her questions that she was not expecting:
1- How long have you lived in the Hudson Valley? 40 years
2- What is your favorite place to visit in the Hudson Valley? The Christmas Tree Shop & Mt Alvernia
3- How long have you been in the insurance biz? 26 years
4- What’s your favorite song? It’s a hymn “Go make a difference”
5- What’s your favorite movie? Romeo and Juliette
6 – If someone made a movie of your life who would play you? Sally Field
7- What is the best part of your day at HVA? When people thank us for saving them money and taking good care of them
Kathy is our office manager, and single-handedly runs our commercial lines. Stop by our Walden office and say Hi one day, find out why we are the Hudson Valley’s best independent insurance agency!

Please join us in welcoming Philip Bender-Tymon to the HVA family! Philip is an Ulster county resident with firm ties to his community, he is currently the Director of Communications for the Kingston Uptown Business Association and his husband is a local business owner. Philip has an extensive background in communications and problem solving, and is looking forward to putting those skills to work for our clients.
We were worried that Philip might find the world of an independent insurance agency a little slow compared to his previous life in corporate America, but he assures us that this is not the case,”I’m having a way better time meeting one-on-one with current and future clients and helping them to protect the things they love and treasure. Not having to set my alarm to 4 a.m. for a conference call to China is a huge bonus.”.
You can contact Philip at our Walden office, 845-778-2141 or via email firstname.lastname@example.org. Remember to eat locally, shop locally, play locally, and insure locally with Hudson Valley Agents!

There are only 4 more days left in 2016, and for that we are thankful! 2016 has been the year from hell for most of America and we find ourselves looking towards 2017 with hope and a little bit of nervous laughter. 2017 will be welcomed in with hearts filled with the hope that this will be the year we actually keep our New Year’s resolutions.
Making resolutions for the new year is something we have all done and 2017 will be no exception. An impromptu poll of Hudson Valley residents (we asked our friends and family members) shows that these are the 5 most popular Hudson Valley New Year’s resolutions:
1- Lose 10 pounds
2- Save money
3- Live your best life
4- Shop locally more often
5- Become more organized
Hudson Valley Agents can help you keep 3 out of 5 of these resolutions!

Hudson Valley Agents has adopted the #insurelocal hashtag for a very good reason, we have 5, yes 5, New York state-based insurance companies that we work with and that is a pretty big deal.
When you insure with a regionally based insurance company your rates are regionally based. For example, if your homeowners insurance is with Allstate or State Farm then you might have noticed an increase in your premiums after the California wild fires destroyed so many homes. This happens when your insurance company covers everything everywhere. A locally based insurance company’s rates reflect the risks and losses of their region and not the rest of the country.
If you would like to #insurelocal then give us a call, we work with these local companies –
- Eastern Insurance, Greenville NY, Orange county
- Preferred Mutual, New Berlin NY, Chenango county
- Utica First, Utica NY, Oneida county
- Claverack Cooperative Insurance, Claverack NY, Columbia county
- Mid-Hudson Cooperative Insurance, Montgomery NY, Orange county
Keep your money where you live, shop locally, eat locally, play locally, and insure locally with Hudson Valley Agents!
